CONTENT 1 : " What I read today..6 July 2009..0900-1200 "
My first experience as HBP's student...
The first thing that I read when arrived at school of HBP was the phrase " SELAMAT DATANG " on a banner placed outside the lecture hall. It is somehow had given me a motivation to help the university's mission to born an APEX student.
What is read??
- the word "read" have at least 46 meanings in different versions and one of the definiton is to look carefully so as to intepret something written and printed ( taken from MILLENIUM DICTIONARY LEARN ENGLISH ).
- read usually involve 3 thing, first and foremost we must use our ears to hear what we are reading in order to get the information regarding the content. Then, use our eye to see and interpret the text before go to the heart where we 'feel' the informations.
- according to the Mr Wan Burhanuddin, one of the lecturer of architecture in school of Housing, Building and Planning, we need three important things when 'read'...
(a) intention (actor)
(b) act (rules)
(c) product (site)
intention is basically evolve from the inspiration of what we want to do or better be called 'instinct', for example a baby who are trying to learn how to walk and of course his/her mom or dad cannot teach how because at that age, they cannot understand adult language, so they have their own instinct to walk and after several attempts, they manage to walk.
secondly, about act. After we had the intention, we have to act according to what we are wish for. But, our action must always follow the rules. For example the gravity. all the object that been thrown must come down.
Lastly, we will get a good product when we complete the mission with both combination of intention and act .
- to be an architect with a 'heart' when construct a design/project, we should acknowledge these elements...
i. learn
ii. do
iii. acquire
iv. get
v. equip
...plus the BASIC TOOLS in order to participate in the development proper.
- what are the BASIC TOOLS??
These are the steps for an architect should know and expertise :
DOCUMENT ( text, image)
COMMUNICATE ( using presentation, model, argue, and image)
DESIGN
CONSTRUCT
SERVE ( without consider the status of our client)
CONTENT 2 : " big bang.."
On the evening of 9th July 2009, we, the first year students had an opening event for the programme called “Big Bang “. It is an event where all the students being combined and formed a couple of groups to play a ‘futsal’ match. ‘Futsal’ is a game where it is almost the same as the football match but the field is rather smaller and some rules was changed to adapt the game environment.
Then, the team matches were randomly chosen and after that, they began to play according to the schedule. The purpose of the match is to give the chance for all the first year students knew and become closer to their seniors so that it will profit them in the future.
Besides, the matches can teach the student about teamwork and leadership among the participants. Even though some of the students got injured while playing, they always showed a good spirit to continue the match until the end. When the dawn had arrived, all the participants had ended the match and will be continue the next day.
On July 10th, the event was an opening ceremony where all the HBP’s students have to wore the t-shirt with a big words ‘Big Bang‘ written on it. It was kind of ‘cool’ because the colours that been chosen were very artistic. On the same evening, the ceremony had been opened by our Dean of HBP himself,Professor Ir. Dr. Mahyuddin Ramli. After that, the event continued until night where the ice breaking was held. For this session, we had been divided into 16 groups and each group had to construct a structure from manila cards. After given times, each group representative had to present in front of several panels.
